Lebanese President Aoun visits Syriac Maronite Patriarch Mor Bechara Raï; chairs security meeting on disarming Palestinian Camps

BETH KERKE, BAABDA, Lebanon — Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and his wife visited the Patriarchal Residence in Beth Kerke (Bkerke) to check on the health of Syriac Maronite Patriarch Mor Bechara Butros Al-Raï, who has recently recovered from an illness. The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss the general situation in Lebanon. The Patriarch expressed his gratitude to the President and First Lady for their visit.

In a separate development, President Aoun convened a security meeting at Baabda Palace to outline preliminary measures for withdrawing weapons from Palestinian Camps across Lebanon, in line with his recent agreement with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

The discussions focused on the necessary mechanisms and procedures to enforce disarmament, aiming to enhance security and stability in and around the camps. The meeting also addressed broader security challenges in Lebanon, particularly the volatile situation in the south.

The President and security officials examined ongoing obstacles, including repeated Israeli airstrikes, which continue to hinder the Lebanese Army’s full deployment in the region.
