European officials extend condolences to Mor John X Yaziji
DARAMSUQ — Patriarch Mor John X Yaziji received European special envoys to Syria who expressed their solidarity and offered condolences following the terrorist bombing attack on the Greek (Rûm) Orthodox Mar Elias Church in Daramsuq (Damascus).
The meeting, which took place at the Patriarch’s headquarters in Daramsuq (Damascus), included: Stefano Ravagnan from Italy, Antonio González and Zavana Peña (Spain), Radu Gîmbuțan (Romania), Michael Hadji Kero (Cyprus), Emmanouil Kakavelakis (Greece), Margarete Jacob (Germany), and Szabolcs Tüttő from Hungary. Also present was the head of the Red Cross mission to Syria Stephan Sakalian.
All European envoys condemned the cowardly attack targeting Syria’s Christian community, emphasizing that such violence threatens the Syria social fabric.
Earlier, Patriarch Mor John X Yaziji held the Syrian government and President Ahmad al-Sharaa personally responsible for the bombing, demanding enhanced security measures for churches nationwide.
