On International Anti-Drug Day, Internal Security Forces Pledge Relentless Fight Against Narcotics in North & East Syria
ZALIN, Beth Nahrin — Marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria reaffirmed their commitment to combating the spread of narcotics across the region. Authorities described drug control as one of their top strategic priorities and emphasized continued operations against those responsible for trafficking and promoting drug use.
In a public statement issued Thursday, the security forces outlined a year of intensified anti-drug efforts. These included coordinated raids on suspected narcotics networks, the arrest of major traffickers, and the dismantling of distribution cells operating across urban and rural areas. The operations also targeted dealers and users, with legal action taken in accordance with regional laws.
Significant quantities of narcotics were seized, including hashish, crystal meth, Captagon, heroin, and chemicals used in drug production. The operations were carried out in collaboration with the regional Health Authority and the Pharmacists’ Union, reflecting a multi-sectoral approach to enforcement.
Authorities emphasized the importance of prevention and rehabilitation, calling for greater public awareness about the dangers of substance abuse. They also urged the creation of specialized treatment centers to provide medical and psychological support for individuals struggling with addiction and to help them reintegrate into society.
The statement closed with a reaffirmation that efforts to combat narcotics would continue with full force, underscoring the broader goal of preserving public safety and social stability in the autonomous region.
