Syriac delegation visits Greek (Rûm) Orthodox Bishop Romanos al-Hannat in Daramsuq

DARAMSUQ — A high-level Syriac delegation met with Patriarchal Vicar of the Greek (Rûm) Orthodox Church in Daramsuq (Damascus) Bishop Romanos al-Hannat in a symbolic and strategic step toward strengthening inter-Christian cooperation in Syria.

The delegation included Head of Foreign Affairs for the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo d-Bethnahrin, MUB) Nazira Goreya, Head of Foreign Relations for the Syriac Union Party (Gabo d’Ḥuyodo Suryoyo, SUP) Ephrem Ishaq, and President of the Syriac Cross Organization for Relief and Development Malik Hanna.

During the visit, the delegation extended heartfelt condolences to Bishop Romanos and the Greek (Rûm) Orthodox community for the lives lost in the 21 June terrorist attack of the Church of Mar Elias Church, which martyred 29 worshippers.

Hanna emphasized that Syriac Cross stands ready to support the families of victims and injured survivors with humanitarian assistance, trauma support, and advocacy.

The meeting also addressed broader challenges facing Christian populations in Daramsuq, including security, emigration, and religious rights under the Syrian Government. Bishop Romanos expressed appreciation for the gesture of solidarity and affirmed the importance of continued cooperation among Syrian Christin communities.
