Suroyo TV marks 21 years as global voice for the Syriac–Assyrian–Chaldean–Aramean community

STOCKHOLM — On 21 July, Suroyo TV will celebrate the 21st anniversary of its founding, marking more than two decades as a vital voice for the global Syriac–Assyrian–Chaldean–Aramean community. The channel, which began its experimental broadcasts in July 2004, was born from a dream to create the first full-fledged Syriac-language satellite television station.

That dream took a decisive step forward on 5 July 2004, when broadcasting equipment was activated and the first images were transmitted via satellite. The channel officially entered its trial phase, launching a period of testing and technical fine-tuning. By 10 October 2004, Suroyo TV began its official 24/7 broadcast — a watershed moment in the modern media history of the community.

Since then, Suroyo TV has remained on the air continuously, providing a platform that blends news, culture, and politics with deep-rooted community service. The channel has become a beacon of identity and continuity — especially during times of crisis. In a region often marked by conflict and displacement, Suroyo TV has chronicled the experiences of Syriac–Assyrian–Chaldean–Aramean people with rigor, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to truth.

More than a news outlet, Suroyo TV has played an essential role in preserving language and heritage, amplifying the voices of a historically marginalized people. Its programming — ranging from cultural documentaries and live news bulletins to interviews with members of the diaspora — has helped foster unity and shared purpose across geographic and generational divides.

In November 2011, the network expanded its reach by adopting IPTV broadcasting, enabling higher-quality content delivery to viewers across Europe, the Middle East, and North America via the internet. This technological advancement significantly extended the station’s footprint, connecting thousands more Syriac–Assyrian–Chaldean–Aramean homes worldwide.

As it enters its third decade, Suroyo TV remains a cornerstone of community identity, advocacy, and cultural preservation — continuing to inspire, inform, and unite Syriac-speaking audiences around the world.
