Beth Nahrain Youth holds workshop to boost “Critical Thinking” among Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian youth
BAGHDEDA, Nineveh Plain – In an era where news and rumors circulate around the clock, simply receiving information is no longer enough. People need critical thinking as a fundamental intellectual tool—a skill that enables them to sift through misinformation, distinguish facts from opinions, and make informed judgments.
Beth Nahrain Youth in Baghdeda, Nineveh Plain of Iraq recently held an educational workshop on “Critical Thinking”, aiming to cultivate this vital skill among young people. The program focused especially on the youth of the Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian community, who carry the torch of national identity and embody the future of their people in Beth Nahrain (Mesopotamia). Participants were encouraged to develop a mindset rooted in questioning, analyzing, and evaluating information before forming opinions or taking positions.
The workshop, attended by dozens of young participants from the Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian community, covered several key areas: the importance of critical thinking, practical ways to apply it in daily life, methods for evaluating information from media sources, and how to distinguish reliable news from rumors as well as personal opinion from scientific fact. Attendees engaged in interactive exercises and open discussions, fostering participation and constructive dialogue.
The Beth Nahrain Youth emphasized that instilling critical thinking in the younger generation helps build a community capable of facing challenges in a scientific and objective manner while developing intellectual resilience against misinformation.
Critical thinking, they noted, is essential for intellectual progress. It is not merely about critiquing others but also involves self-reflection and openness to differing perspectives. In an increasingly complex world, critical thinking serves as a compass guiding individuals toward truth and understanding.
