SYRIA: Mass grave found in areas controlled by Turkish-backed factions in Azaz

AZAZ, Syria — A mass grave containing unidentified bodies was found near the city of Azaz, north of Holeb (Aleppo), which is under the control of the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA).

A source within the SNA told North Press Agency that the grave was found in agricultural lands near the checkpoint at the western gate of the city.

The source added that the police affiliated with the SNA had exhumed seven unidentified bodies.

The SNA-affiliated Azaz Media Center indicated that after an investigation it became clear that the grave dates back to between 2013 and 2014, which it said was when the Islamic State controlled the city.

However, the city of Azaz has been under the control of the SNA since July 2012, raising doubts about the accuracy of the media center’s statement.
