Syriac Progressive Youth Union holds march against Turkish occupation in Tel Tamr in North and East Syria

TEL TAMR, Syria — Holding banners and signs with phrases like “No to a New Sayfo”, the Syriac Progressive Youth Union organized a demonstration in Tel Tamr on Friday as an expression of their rejection of Turkish threats of a renewed offensive and the ongoing human rights violations in the Turkish-occupied areas in North and East Syria.

Youth from all of the Union’s branches — Dayrik, Qabre Hewore, Zalin (Qamishli), Tel Tamr, and Hasakah — attended the march.

The demonstrators marched through the main street carrying the flags of the progressive Syriac youth Union and signs bearing slogans of resistance in the Syriac language. They also chanted slogans in support of the Syriac Military Council (MFS) and other forces in the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), stopping in front of the MFS headquarters in the city center.

The demonstration turned into a mass gathering in which official of the Syriac Progressive Youth Union, Sobhi Malki, delivered a speech praising the resistance of the SDF and MFS against Turkey and the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA).

Malki stressed that they, as a Syriac youth, will continue to support the SDF and MFS in their defense of the people of North and East Syria. He also called on the United Nations to put pressure on the Turkish occupation and its armed proxies to leave the region.
