USUP President Ibrahim Mrad urges Syriac Maronite Church to play larger role in saving Lebanon
BEIRUT — Ibrahim Mrad, President of Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP), called on the Syriac Maronite Patriarch Mor Bechara Boutros al-Raï to use the strength of the Church to lift Lebanon out of chaos and Iranian dependency before the damage done to the country is irreversible.
In light of the government vacuum, economic decline, and the loss of national self-determination due to Iranian influence through Hezbollah. Mrad issued a statement on Monday calling on Patriarch al-Raï to do more to keep Lebanon together and help extract it from the quagmire of Iranian influence.
In his statement, Mrad appealed to the Patriarch to gather the parties, organizations, and sovereign figures under the cloak of “Bkerki”, as did Patriarch Sfeir, who published a compulsory rescue document in which he called on the Lebanese diaspora and the international and Arab communities to intervene to pull Lebanon out of the mouth and grip of Iran before it is too late.
Mrad added that the contacts and meetings he has had with leaders in the international and Arab communities have left him assured that Lebanon friends will not abandon it, provided that there are clear and explicit demands from the Lebanese society to intervene.
The statement concluded, “We will not give up, and we will continue struggle to save our homeland.”
