Chaldean Patriarch Sako: Iraq’s constitutional system remains “just décor” for power politics

BAGHDAD — Amidst an atmosphere of slipping government control over the country, Patriarch of Babylon of the Chaldeans and head of the Chaldean Catholic Church Louis Raphaël I Sako described the country’s constitutional system as “just décor”.

According to the official website of the Chaldean Patriarchate, Patriarch Sako expressed fears that the upcoming October election will see widespread fraud, as national politics remains dominated by hardliners and strongmen.

Patriarch Sako called on all political forces to stay away from rhetoric that will undermine stability in Iraq and work to restore the prestige of the state.
