Syriac Cross holds second dialogue session on community resilience in North and East Syria

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — As a part of its “Windows Project” to enhance community resilience, the Syriac Cross Organization for Relief and Development held a second dialogue session in the town of Qabre Hewore (Al-Qahtaniyah). The session was attended by 18 people from across the social spectrum who engaged in useful and constructive debates.

The concept of Community Resilience refers to the ability of a community to adapt to changes in life, such as exposure to physical, social, emotional, health, or economic crises.

Communal resilience will be a necessary source of strength in the near future as climate change and other factors dramatically reshape the social, political, and economic landscape.

Resilient people are more effective in society and can make use of problem-solving skills developed prior to crises. With proper training and practice, members of a community can improve their ability to communicate with different groups of people and relieve tensions that can emerge during crisis situations.

Through community resilience, people living in fragile communities have the opportunity to build strong families and communities that are resilient to the divisions caused by conflict and violence.
