Syriac Patriarchs meet in Daramsuq: Mar Ignatius Aphrem II receives Mar Raphael Louis Sako and Mar Ignatius Joseph III Younan

DARAMSUQ (DAMASCUS) – Syriac Orthodox Patriarch Mar Ignatius Aphrem II received both Patriarch Mar Raphael Louis Sako and Patriarch Mar Ignatius Joseph III Younan, and discussed with them the situation of Christians in Syria, Lebanon and Iraq and the challenges they face in light of the difficulties and crises afflicting the region. 

Mar Aphrem II received Mar Raphael Louis Sako, Patriarch of the Chaldeans, accompanied by Basilius Yalda, the patriarchal assistant and priest of the Chaldean Church in Syria, on Friday at the Patriarchate in Bab Touma in Daramsuq. During the meeting, the Syriac patriarchs discussed issues related to church affairs in general and the situation in Syria and Iraq in particular, and they also talked about the relationship that unites the two churches and ways of cooperation in presenting a unified Christian witness in the Middle East.

Mar Aphrem II also received Patriarch Mar Joseph III Younan, Patriarch of the Syriac Catholic Church of Antioch and all the East, on Friday at the Syriac Orthodox Patriarchate in Daramsuq. During the visit, the two Syriac patriarchs discussed the strong relations between the two sister churches, especially with regard to the service of the Eastern Christians who are still clinging to their roots, their identity and their land. They also discussed the general situation in Syria and Lebanon and the developments taking place on the social and economic level, which affect the lives of citizens.
