Bethnahrin National Council congratulates Syriac-Chaldean-Assyrian-Aramean people and the Catholic Churches on the Glorious Day of Resurrection

“We receive Easter this year, with the hope of attaining freedom, and we call on the whole world to stand united against wars and injustice, and on this day that is considered a day of love and peace, we, as the Bethnahrin National Council, extend our heartfelt congratulations to the Catholic heads and our people of our churches, to His Holiness Pope Francis, and to all Catholic peoples around the world.”

In a message to the Syriac-Chaldean-Assyrian-Aramean people and the Catholic peoples on the occasion of the glorious Feast of Resurrection, the Bethnahrin National Council shed light on the meanings that the resurrection of Jesus Christ carried for our people and for the whole world, and its impact on the concepts of peace and universal love.

The Bethnahrin National Council published a statement on the occasion of the Feast of Resurrection, in which it clarified the meaning of the resurrection of Christ, its implications and the meanings of peace for all of humanity.

The Council began its statement by saying that killings and hostilities are as old as history and humanity, and Christ, with the philosophy of love and equality, put the mistakes of those committed tragedies before society, and appealed to humanity not to commit them.

The statement added that the Christian faith grew and spread in the heart of the Middle East, and with it the philosophy of resolving conflicts through dialogue and the increase of knowledge.

The statement added that our Syriac-Chaldean-Assyrian-Aramean people in the motherland Bethnahrin suffered from internal and external wars, which led to its rupture and sabotage, and it became colonized by various peoples, rulers and forces, and during this dark period, our people adopted the ideology of salvation and freedom that Christ carried and preached.

The statement noted that the continuation of ethnic wars and those that were based on religious and sectarian bases, led to an increase in the pressures exerted on our people, in addition to the looting of all its material and moral values, as those pressures increased during its celebration of its holidays.

The statement added that the policy of mass murder practiced on Christians in the Middle East aimed to end them over hundreds of years, forcing a large number of them to convert to other religions or to cover up their belief and religion to avoid the genocide that Christians were subjected to in the Middle East, which led to the lack of influence of cultural values, democracy, freedom and equality, which are the basis of the Christian faith.

The statement added that Europe fought fierce wars during different decades and periods, to achieve its material and political interests, leaving the Christians of the Middle East to face their fate alone, and this era began to be forgotten and withered from human memory. This is a huge loss for Christianity in the Middle East and the world, and for all of humanity.

The Council concluded its statement by saying, “We receive Easter this year, with the hope of attaining freedom, and we call on the whole world to stand united against wars and injustice, and on this day that is considered a day of love and peace, we, as the Bethnahrin National Council, extend our heartfelt congratulations to the Catholic heads and our people of our churches, to His Holiness Pope Francis, and to all Catholic peoples around the world.”
