Christian Chaldeans–Syriacs–Assyrians celebrate Rabban Hormizd in Nineveh Plains, Iraq

NINEVEH PLAINS, Iraq — In the week following Easter, Christian Chaldeans–Syriacs–Assyrians in Nineveh Plains celebrate the remembrance of Rabban Hormizd.

An activist from Alqosh told Shafaq News that Sunday’s remembrance of Rabban Hormizd was postponed a day due to bad weather.

Christians in Nineveh Plains remember Rabban Hormizd on the second Sunday after Easter. They visit the Rabban Hormizd Monastery, located at the foot of Jabal Alqosh, north of Mosul, to hold prayers and religious ceremonies in addition to enjoying a feast and dancing.

Rabban Hormizd Monastery is a nearly 1,400-year-old monastery carved from the rocks that somewhat resembles an amphitheater. It is one of the holiest sites for Chaldean Catholics.
