Syriac Union Party Co-Chair Barsom: Next stage in North and East Syria will witness economic prosperity

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — Following the U.S. government’s issuance of sanction waivers allowing limited foreign investment in North and East Syria, Co-Chair of the Syriac Union Party (SUP) Sanharib Barsom stated to the SyriacPress news desk that the decision will have positive economic effects on the region.

“The U.S. decision will bring great development to regions of the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) in all aspects,” said Barsom. “It supports the DAA and represents a kind of recognition of it amid the Syrian regime’s failure to contribute to a political solution in Syria.”

Barsom added that this decision will allow foreign and European companies to work in the region within local investments, including agriculture, trade, and green power generation. This will be reflected positively on the residents, such as providing new job opportunities and thus improving the economic situation.

“The SUP are trying to benefit as much as possible from this decision for the economic interest of the Syriac people,” he continued, calling on the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people in the diaspora to benefit from this decision and launch investments in the DAA areas to benefit the homeland.
