The Turkish Supreme Court revokes the sentence against fighters of the Syriac Military Council of North and East Syria
ANKARA / NORTH AND EAST SYRIA —Last year, three members of the Syriac Military Council (Mawtbo Fulḥoyo Suryoyo, MFS) were taken prisoners in North and East Syria by the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA). In Turkey, two of them were illegally sentenced to life in prison and the last one was illegally sentenced to seven years in prison.
According to Suroyo TV, an affiliate of SyriacPress, the Turkish Supreme Court issued a decision to revoke the sentence, after reviewing the sentence and considering it wrong and illegal against the MSF fighters, who were only defending their homeland.
The MFS fighters were taken prisoners in 2019, in the villages of Tal Tamr and Khabur Valley. Two of the detained MFS fighters have been prisoned in Batman prison and the other in Urhoy (Urfa) prison, the MFS reported via Facebook.
Last year, the MFS called on the international community to pressure Turkey to release the three fighters.
It was reported that the Supreme Court is to re-sentence the detainees later, amid unknown fate or sentence that will be taken against them.
