IRAQ: Winner of Christian quota seat in the Basra Provincial Council excluded 

BASRA, Iraq — The Accountability and Justice Commission has excluded Fahram Haik, the winner of the Christian quota seat in the Basra Provincial Council in Iraq.

Addressing people of Basra and Fayhaa, Haik stated that he was surprised by this decision.

“When I submitted my candidacy papers to the Commission, they were sent to the Accountability and Justice Commission, Ministry of Interior and Ministries of Education and Higher Education. My candidacy papers were approved, and I started the election campaign, relying on my professionality, as well as support and love of people of Basra,” Haik declared.

Haik won the Christian quota seat in the Basra Provincial Council in Iraq.

However, he was surprised by the exclusion decision by the Accountability and Justice Commission.

Haik was replaced by a candidate of the Babylon Movement affiliated with the Popular Mobilization Forces.

It was reported that Haik received 1375 votes, while the alternative candidate received only 180 votes.
