Syriac Union Party demands justice for detained leader Saeed Malke, 11 years after his arrest by Syrian regime

ZALIN, North and East Syria — Eleven years after the arrest of Syriac Union Party (SUP) leader and activist Saeed Malke by Syrian regime security forces, the SUP renewed its call for the Syrian government to reveal his fate. Malke was detained on 12 August 2013, in Zalin (Qamishli), North and East Syria, and subsequently transferred to Daramsuq (Damascus). His whereabouts remain unknown.

The SUP reiterated its demand for the regime to disclose the fate of Malke and all other Syrians who have been detained or forcibly disappeared for expressing opinions that challenge the government’s authoritarian rule.

On this solemn occasion, the SUP reaffirmed its commitment to honoring the sacrifices of martyrs and its ongoing dedication to the cause of freedom and justice. The party emphasized its continued efforts within the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), which aims to unify the Syrian people and restore the country’s territorial integrity amidst ongoing regional and international interference.

The SUP also stressed its commitment to fostering national and religious pluralism in Syria, advocating for equality, and working towards the end of tyranny and terrorism. Their vision is to achieve a democratic, pluralistic, and decentralized Syria that upholds coexistence, civil peace, and sovereignty across all its territories.
