Patriarch of Assyrian Church of the East Mar Awa III Royel discusses strengthening religious coexistence in Kurdistan Region of Iraq with Sheikh Abdullah Wasi

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq — In a gesture emphasizing coexistence among different ethnic and religious communities, Catholicos-Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East Mor Awa III Royel welcomed Sheikh Abdullah Wasi, Chairman of the Union of Islamic Religious Scholars in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), along with his accompanying delegation.

The meeting focused on promoting human fraternity, fostering relations between Christians and Muslims in the KRI, and highlighting the importance of joint efforts to enhance coexistence across all ethnic and religious groups in the region.

Both leaders underscored the necessity of defending human dignity and addressing the ethical challenges facing societies today. Mor Awa III Royel emphasized that such meetings send powerful messages of hope and mutual respect to believers of both faiths, as well as to followers of other religions, reinforcing the importance of global cooperation to preserve human dignity and coexistence.
