DARAMSUQ — A delegation from the Syriac Union Party (SUP) in Syria attended the Syrian Democratic Alliance’s conference on Sunday in Daramsuq (Damascus).
The SUP delegation included Co-Chair Sanharib Barsom and Representative of SUP Relations Committee Nazira Goreya, who engaged actively in the discusisons.
Marwan Khoury, head of the Syrian Democratic Alliance, delivered a powerful keynote address outlining the alliance’s vision for Syria’s future. Khoury stressed the importance of acknowledging the country’s ethnic and religious diversity while fostering partnerships among political forces to create new institutions and draft a democratic constitution.
In comments to Syriac Press, Khoury emphasized, “These tools are essential for recognizing the diverse Syrian forces on the ground. In the past, many of our members couldn’t raise their voices, but now we can. We are calling on all democratic forces to unite and build a democratic Syria. Our goal is equal citizenship, where there is no need to identify as Syriacs, Christians, Alawites, or Druze — because we are all equal. This is the foundation for building the new Syria.”
Khoury also highlighted Syria’s unparalleled cultural and ethnic diversity, stating, “Syria’s richness in cultural and ethnic diversity is unmatched by any other country, and this diversity must be the cornerstone of its rebuilding process.”
The Syrian Democratic Alliance represents a broad coalition of political parties, civil society organizations, and independent figures, reflecting the nation’s vast social and political spectrum.
The participation of the Syriac Union Party underscores its commitment to inclusivity and collaboration during Syria’s transitional phase. The party continues to work with other political and social groups to ensure a democratic future, where all Syrians enjoy equal rights under a pluralistic constitution.
