Syriac Union Party in Qabre Hewore and the Yazidi Women’s Union: working together to increase the role of women in building regional institutions
QABRE HEWORE (Qahtaniyah), North and East Syria – A delegation from the Yazidi Women’s Union visited the headquarters of the Syriac Union Party (SUP) in the city of Qabre Hewore yesterday. The visiting delegation included the co-chair of the Yazidi Party, Hadiya Shamo, and the Public Relations Officer of the Yazidi House, Majdulin Ebo.
They were received by the co-chairs of the local SUO branch, Faya Ardish and Edib Shabo, representatives of the Women’s Office in the branch, Nineveh Cacan, Berula Youssef, and Mona Shamoun, and Executive Committee representative, Samuel Antar.
The two parties discussed the strengthening of relations, coordination, and joint action in the service of the region and its community. Special focus was on how the improve together the framework of the ongoing democratic project in North and East Syria.
The discussion further addressed women’s issues in the Region of North and East Syria in general, and the challenges they face under the current political, social, and economic circumstances. Both sides expressed their goal to expand the role of women within the institutional framework and empower and harness women’s potential to contribute to the building and organizing institutional processes.
