People’s Municipality of Beth Zalin, North and East Syria, undertakes $1.6 million road paving project

BETH ZALIN, North and East Syria — The People’s Municipality in Beth Zalin (Qamishli), North and East Syria, continues work to improve the city’s infrastructure and provide essential services to residents despite limited financial resources. Among its current initiatives is a comprehensive road-paving project to enhance the quality of the city’s streets.

With the arrival of summer, the municipality has launched its 2025 asphalt paving project at a cost of approximately $1.6 million. Hassan Hussein, a member of the municipality’s technical office, explained in an interview that this is one of several infrastructure initiatives planned or underway for the year.

The project began earlier this month on Al-Karama Street in the city market and has since extended to the eastern entrance of the city, connecting to the Jamaaya neighborhood. Hussein noted that 2,500 linear meters of road, each approximately 9.5 meters wide, have already been paved.

Additionally, work on the city’s western belt has been completed, and the team is now focusing on the stretch from the “Sevan” roundabout to Corniche Road. Hussein emphasized that the asphalt mix used is locally produced and meets quality specifications.

Challenges have arisen, including limited cooperation from neighborhood councils and residents, which Hussein identified as a significant obstacle. Despite this, the municipality remains committed to its mission of improving infrastructure.

The municipality has also announced a three-year budget of approximately $6 million, earmarked for various projects aimed at enhancing the daily lives of Beth Zalin’s residents.
