Society for Threatened Peoples: Turkey taking advantage of world preoccupation with Ukrainian war to attack minorities in Syria

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — In a recent statement, the Society for Threatened Peoples condemned the continued Turkish attacks on North and East Syria.

“Once again, Turkish drones launched an air attack on North and East Syria, killing one person and injuring two others, including the poet Farhad Mardi,” read the statement.

The Society added that while the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are fighting the Islamic State (ISIS) in North and East Syria, Turkish forces are intensifying their attacks on minorities there — amid the silence of the guarantor Russian forces stationed there — taking advantage of the world’s preoccupation with the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

According to human rights groups, Turkish drones killed or injured hundreds of civilians in North and East Syria, including women and children, over the past two years.

The guarantor countries, including the U.S. and Russia, have remained silent about these attacks.

On Sunday, a Turkish drone attacked a vehicle of the Syriac Military Council (Mawtbo Fulḥoyo Suryoyo, MFS), injuring the MFS leader Orom Maroge.
