Syrian Democratic Forces foil two coordinated Islamic State attacks in Hasakah and Dayro Zcuro (Deir ez-Zor)

HASAKAH, North and East Syria — The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Tuesday that they successfully thwarted two coordinated attacks by ISIS militants in the countryside of Hasakah and Dayro Zcuro (Deir ez-Zor) in North and East Syria. The operations involved intercepting a weapon-laden vehicle and repelling an assault on one of their positions, both without sustaining casualties.

In a statement released by its media center, the SDF described the attacks as part of ISIS’s ongoing efforts to destabilize areas controlled by the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES).

The first incident occurred at a checkpoint in Markada, southern Hasakah, where an SDF fighter flagged a suspicious civilian vehicle. A search uncovered a cache of weapons, ammunition, and military gear. During the search, two armed individuals on a motorcycle fired on the checkpoint. SDF personnel returned fire and pursued the attackers, later confirming their affiliation with an ISIS cell. The skirmish resulted in no injuries, with material damages confined to the vehicle.

The second attack took place in Sweidan, eastern Dayro Zcuro, where an SDF patrol came under fire from suspected ISIS operatives attempting a “terrorist operation.” The unit repelled the assault without injuries or significant losses.

The SDF also noted a recent uptick in ISIS activity in northeastern Syria. A day prior, the SDF reported another attack that left one fighter dead and another wounded.

The developments underscore persistent challenges in securing DAARNES territories against the threat of ISIS resurgence.
